The Diocese of Laredo requires masks for all church activities

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The Diocese of Laredo released a statement on mass and other religious gatherings on Wednesday evening.

Bishop Tamayo has said that from now until further notice, the wearing of masks by all, regardless of vaccination status, will be mandatory for all church activities.

The bishop says this was done because of the sudden increase in COVID cases and reports of the presence of the delta variant in the community.

“Dear people of the Diocese of Laredo,

As we prepare to lift the waiver of the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days, I am aware of the sudden increase in COVID cases in the Diocese of Laredo. Reports of the presence of the Delta variant in our communities have raised concerns about the use of masks during mass and other religious gatherings. Noting as always that this pandemic is constantly evolving, we see the need to continually reassess our policies. In light of the latest CDC recommendations and the increase in hospitalizations of COVID cases, effective immediately and until further notice, the wearing of a mask by all, regardless of vaccination status, is mandatory for all health care activities. the church.

My pastoral concern, as well as that of every diocesan priest, for the well-being of those entrusted to us calls us to encourage all to continue to be vigilant and to take precautions.

Todo Con Amor,

Bishop James A. Tamayo, DD

First Bishop of Laredo ”
